Symbolic Pride Color Associations, showing: hot pink associated with sex; red with life; orange with healing; yellow with sunlight; green with nature; turquoise with magic; indigo with serenity; violet with spirit; brown with diversity; black with inclusivity.

As introduced in the Litha Intro article, Haven Song made it a tradition several years ago to theme Litha as a Pride event, ostentatiously because it had become so difficult for us, our members, and guests to fit local Pride events into our social calendars. By centering Pride at Litha, we made space to intentionally, energetically fuel both ourselves and our community. This theming dovetails nicely with our traditional Work in celebrating the light as the Sun reaches the peak of its power. And we get to revel in rainbows!

Although a streamlined, 6 color rainbow flag is more popular today, we chose the rainbow flag as Gilbert Baker originally designed it in 1978 because we wanted to explicitly include the ideas represented by some of those otherwise missing colors. We did add back in Brown and Black as a nod to the modern Intersex-Inclusive Progress Pride Flag, though.

Celebrate the Light Meditation

We used ten (10x) 4-5in "spell candles" for this Work, as they are a cheap and highly pigmented option, but any size candle can do as long as it passes for the colors below.

Simply light the appropriate candle (from a Source candle, if you have one), then place them in order in prepared candle holders.

You may say or meditate on each topic associated with each candle as you light and place it.

Hot pink = Sex, representing the vibrant embrace of sexuality and identity.

Red = Life, pulsating with the energy of living authentically.

Orange = Healing, acknowledging the journey of overcoming past struggles.

Yellow = Sunlight, illuminating the path towards a brighter future.

Green = Nature, symbolizing the harmonious interconnection of all beings.

Turquoise = Magic, celebrating the transformative power of creativity and self-expression.

Indigo = Serenity, reflecting the inner peace found in embracing oneself.

Violet = Spirit, honoring the spiritual dimensions of human experience.

Brown = Diversity, reminding us to to find strength in our differences.

Black = Inclusivity, acknowledging the intersection of ancient and modern practices and philosophies, especially in relation to minorities practicing the Craft.

Let your candles burn down as they will, expending their energy upward and outward for your own use, for your household, or directed toward your community or a cause as you will. So mote it be!

Thank you all for reading, and thank you for being part of our big queer, pagan family!

Blessed Be!
