Mabon 2025: Work of the Circle (at Home)

Blue Star was founded with the idea that all Gods have value and possibly a place in a Blue Star Circle - that myth and legend are “Real for a Reason,” with that reason existing in the wonders of Earth and the cosmos around us. For this reason and more, we honor Nature itself in our rituals.
The Autumn Equinox at Mabon is a balance point, where day and night are equal. While at Ostara we have the lengthening warmth of the sun to look forward to, the autumn Sun moves away from us, our days becoming shorter and cooler.
As we pace toward Samhain, we hope for the Earth to appropriately die with the Lord's descent into the Underworld in the autumn (and the Goddess’s after Him), and for them both to ascend and become rejuvenated again in Spring.
Changing the Candles from Green to Red

In many Blue Star covens, we recognize the shift in this balance by lighting a special candle. Haven Song holds this candle on our altar as the Fire candle, lighting it during many of the rituals we will hold in the six (6) months between the equinoxes, each time renewing the magic held in the spell below!
Materials
A Red Candle that is large enough to be used for your purposes for the next six (6) months (equinox to equinox)
A Green Candle - this could be a taper for your first time, with the goal of getting a larger green candle for next year's Ostara; or this may be the Green Candle you have been using or intend to use next year - as is convenient and practical.
Fire - how do you prefer to summon Fire? Lighter, matches, flint?
Taper candle or other tool to pass the flame, if your green candle cannot easily light your red candle on its own
Charge Your Candles
Cast your circle to start your Work as preferred.
Speak over the Green Candle - The green candle enters at Ostara, representing the Summer Fire, the warmth that sustains the life of green and growing things through the Spring and Summer, allowing us to grow food and become better prepared for the Autumn and Winter months. At Mabon we replace this with the red candle.
Speak over the Red Candle - This candle is the Winter Fire, evoking the glow of the hearth that welcomes in friends and family from the cold, and the warmth of love shared in times of darkness.
State the purpose - The God inspires, and the Goddess manifests, the Change of the Seasons on the Earth. We light this candle to bring energy to the safety and security of ourselves and our communities as the Cycle continues, as well as to celebrate Their journey. By so doing, we are expressing our promise to be there for Them as They return in Spring, ready to continue doing the Work we've started.
Light the taper from the Green Candle, or take the Green Candle itself now, and light the Red Candle. Allow the two candles to burn together until the end of ritual, at which time the Green Candle should be retired for the season.
Seal the charge - The success of the Dance depends on the two Forces moving and pulling carefully with and against each other; one in unchanging certainty, and the other in the certainty of change.
So mote it be!
Blessed Be!
